RCA figures out wireless energy?

Wow, seriously? Just read this Engadget article from CES 2009, as has the rest of the Internet I’m sure. Yeah, this little device take a WiFi signal (password-protected or not) and charges an internal battery that you can then use to charge something else, like your phone.

I hope this isn’t one of those things that you see a preview of that just never goes anywhere and everyone stops talking about (e.g. Microsoft Surface). But this is Nikola Tesla-type stuff here, a step up from things like the Powermat and Palm Pre’s built-in charging coolness. One year and they’ll have it built into batteries for mobile devices? I can’t believe this even works, so I’ll be watching this one.
